Our ointments begin with a mixture of herbs and either olive or peanut oil. The mixture is allowed to sit for at least a fortnight [two weeks] to infuse the herbal properties into the oil. This is called maceration. The mixture is then strained to remove the herbs. For balms and massage gels, beeswax and cocoa butter are added to the the herbal-infused oil. For scented massage oils, only essential oils are added.
